Homestead National Monument’s Upcoming Heritage Events

Heritage Center Open House at Homestead Nat’l Monument of America

Homestead National Monument of AmericaResidents of Beatrice and surrounding communities are invited to visit the Heritage Center during a special open house weekend, 17-18 November. Prizes, give-a-ways for children, and free food each day. 9:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p. m. on Sunday. Admission is free.

Homestead National Monument of America entered a new era of providing fun and welcoming experiences to neighbors and visitors with the opening of the Heritage Center on May 20, 2007. This distinctive building includes interactive museum exhibits, a museum collection, an expanded bookstore with unique gift items, and homesteading records and other items of homesteading literature.

Heritage CenterJunior Ranger Rendezvous 23-25 November

Here’s a great opportunity for children to become Junior Rangers. Come on out to Homestead and earn a badge, certificate, and a cool temporary tattoo. 10am to 4pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures: 25 November – 31 DecemberHNM holiday trees

Special exhibits highlighting various ethnic celebrations brought here by the Homestead Act of 1862 will be on display throughout the holiday period. Sunday afternoon programs spotlight some of the local area heritage (see details below).  

Welsh Traditions Explored: Sunday, 25 November, 1pm and 3pm. Berwyn Jones will describe Welsh Traditions brought to Southeast Nebraska.

Stories from the Danish Immigrant Museum: Sunday, 02 December, 1pm and 3pm. A special program provided by the Danish Immigrant Museum of Elkhorn, Iowa.

Swedish Heritage of Pioneers: Sunday, 09 December, 1pm and 3pm. Swedish heritage will be discussed by Laureen Riedesel.
