First Lady announces program to connect kids, nature

Following the legacy of beautification that made Lady Bird Johnson a noteworthy figure, first lady Laura Bush announced a new program that was designed to connect young people to national parks.

The First Bloom program will work with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and community groups such as the Boys and Girls Clubs to take city-dwelling children on visits to national parks near their home and introduce them to plants native to their areas, seed cultivation and garden design, Bush said.
