Steamtown NHS in Scranton, Pennsylvania has recently posted the rest of its 2007 excursion schedule

Regular excursions occur throughout October and into early November — a great way to see the fall foliage of Pennsylvania’s Pocono region. 

Plus, there are a number of special trains for the Lackawanna Railfest (early November) and the 2007 holiday season (Thanksgiving thru Christmas) as well. Reservations for these special trains begin on October 1st, so make your plans now!

Tobyhanna Excursion

This train ride follows Roaring Brook onto the Pocono Plateau, through a tunnel, across numerous bridges, past ponds and lakes, and through the historic and scenic Pennsylvania countryside. At Tobyhanna, walking tours to a working ice house, or a tour of the small village may be available. Light refreshments are available for purchase at the Tobyhanna Station through the Pocono Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.

The remaining Tobyhanna excursions for 2007 are offered on October 7, 14 and 28.  All depart at 11:00 am and return approximately 3:00-3:30 pm.

Moscow Excursion

Moscow, Pennsylvania is a small town on the western edge of the Pocono Plateau. This 26-mile round trip includes a 30-40 minute layover and takes about 2 hours. It follows Roaring Brook through the Nay Aug tunnel into the Pocono Mountains, across numerous bridges and through the historic and scenic Pennsylvania countryside. Light refreshments are available for purchase at the Moscow train station through the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Railway Historical Society.

The remaining Moscow excursions for 2007 are offered on October 6, 8, 13, 20, 21, 27 and November 4.  All depart at 11:00 am and return approximately 3:00-3:30 pm.  All depart at 1:00 pm and return at approximately 3:00 pm.

Lackawanna Railfest 2007

Scheduled activities include a banquet on November 2nd, a steam-powered passenger excursion to Delaware Water Gap on November 3rd, and another steam-powered excursion to Moscow on November 4th.

Steamtown Holiday Express

Steamtown offers the “Holiday Express” steam-powered excursion to Moscow, PA.  Write your “Dear Santa” letter, bring it with you to drop into a special “North Pole” mailbox, and then join in the merriment and festivities at Moscow’s restored passenger and freight stations!  Along with songs and stories, members of the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter, NRHS, will provide a variety of fun activities at Moscow.

Excursions depart the Steamtown NHS loading platform in downtown Scranton on November 23 and 24, and December 1 and 8.

$16 – ages 17 and older
$10 – ages 1 to 16
Free – under 12 months
(Requires a “no charge” ticket)
