Last ferry for Governors Island, all aboard!

Governors Island

Governors Island National Monument closed for the season on September 2nd and will reopen in June 2008.

Oh no, are you kidding?! ūüė¶

One of the country’s newest National Park Service operated areas is only open seasonally until more extensive visitor services can be established, but you have one more chance this year to visit the island if you plan ahead.

Governors Island will participate in the city-wide “Open House New York” event on Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th. Join¬†“Open House New York”¬†as they¬†celebrate New York City‚Äôs architecture and design.

  • National Park Service Rangers and volunteers will provide programs throughout the day.
  • Visitors can also take a self-guided tour of the National Historic Landmark District.
  • Select buildings throughout the district will be open for visitors to tour.
  • Kids – Pick up your free activity guide at the bookstore and earn a Junior Ranger badge upon completion! Parents – Junior Ranger books are in the bookstore, which is to your left as you disembark the ferry on Governors Island.¬†

Ferry schedule and other details will be posted by September 28, 2007.
